Krisalis Precision Machining was founded in 1986 by Bill Kannenberg, who had been managing the fabrication center for Varian Corporation. When Varia decided to downsize and sell the fabrication department, he decided to purchase their surplus equipment and start his own company. KPM was located in Hayward, California.
Charlie Tinney came to work for Bill in 1988, when the company was just a three man operation. Although small, they had enough work to run three shifts, keeping the machines running 24/7. The business continued to grow and they moved into a 10,000 square foot building in 1992.
By 1996 Charlie wanted to move his family to the foothills, but Bill didn’t want to let him go, so they set up a small shop in Pioneer, CA where Charlie continued to manufacture parts and send them back to Hayward.
In August 1997 Bill purchased Marler Precision Corporation in San Andreas, CA, and Charlie was tasked with running the 14 man operation under the KPM name. They closed the small shop in Pioneer, while the Hayward location continued to make parts.
The operation continued to expand and gain customers. In January 2017 Bill decided it was time to retire, and asked Charlie if he would be interested in buying the business. They spent about a year figuring out the transition, and in February 2018 Charlie became the owner of Krisalis Precision Machining. By March all of the machines were moved from Hayward to the San Andreas location, and the Hayward location was closed.
KPM continues to machine custom parts for the Defense, Medical, Aerospace, and Mining industries. They are the preferred vendor for most of their clients, and have received accolades from several customers for excellence.
